Съгласно Решение 1622/2006г/ЕО Италия и България са поканени да излъчат градовете (по един от двете държави), които ще получат титлата „Европейска столица на културата” за 2019г.



Асоциация за развитие на София е назначена с решение № 677 на Столичен общински съвет да координира подготовката за кандидатурата на София за Европейска столица на културата 2019.



Инициативата „Европейска столица на културата” е едно от най-престижните и популярни европейски културни събития и е замислена с цел да допринесе за сближаването на европейските народи.

Инициативата е създадена през юни 1985 г. от Съвета на министрите на Европейския съюз по инициатива на Мелина Меркури. В периода след 1985 г. повече от 40 градa са избрани за титлата „Европейска столица на културата“ – от Стокхолм до Генуа, от Атина до Глазгоу, от Краков до Порто.



Събитието „Европейска столица на културата” може да донесе огромни ползи за градовете в културно, социално и икономическо отношение в рамките на самата година и след това. То е уникална възможност за обновяване на градовете, за промяна на представата за тях и за тяхното популяризиране в европейски и международен план. По изчисления на някои предишни успешни столици всяко евро, инвестирано в събитието, може да генерира печалба в размер между 8 и 10 евро. Следователно събитието може да допринесе за растежа и заетостта.



Европейските столици на културата могат да дадат ценен принос за социалното включване и диалога между културите.

According to Decision 1622/2006g/EO Italy and Bulgaria are invited to nominate cities (one per country) that will receive the title of European Capital of Culture for 2019

.

The initiative "European Capital of Culture” is one of the most prestigious and popular European cultural events and is designed to help bring European nations together.

The initiative was established in June 1985 by the Council of Ministers of the European Union on the initiative of Melina Mercouri. Since 1985 more than 40 cities are selected for the title of European Capital of Culture - from Stockholm to Genoa, from Athens to Glasgow, from Cracow to Porto.

The initiative “European Capital of Culture” can bring enormous benefits to the city culturally, socially and economically in the very year that is selected and thereafter. It is a unique opportunity for urban renewal, for changing the image of the city and its promotion in Europe and internationally. In some previous calculations of successful capitals every euro invested in the event, can generate a profit of between 8 and 10 euros. Therefore, the event can contribute to growth and employment.

The initiative “European Capitals of Culture” can make a valuable contribution to social inclusion and intercultural dialogue.
